Kingston Chess Club

Kingston Chess Club, formed in 1875, is a place for chess enthusiasts to gather to play competitively or casually. We have the reputation of having some of the most unique characters and absorbing conversationalists to be found in the chess world. So if you want to find out more about chess culture and history then come along! We've recently moved to The Willoughby Arms, a friendly free house offering a fantastic selection of real ales, and a spacious beer garden and cosy snug for the odd game or 12 of blitz.
The Willoughby Arms is within close walking distance of Kingston and Norbiton stations, various bus links, and offers free off-street parking after 18:30.
For those looking for competitive chess, Kingston has teams in the Surrey and Thames Valley leagues, with home matches played in the large and well-lit upstairs room. We also run internal tournaments and other events for those who are just looking to socialise and enjoy chess enrichment. We meet on a Monday night from 7.30pm.
Keep an eye on our website to see what events are coming up. If you are coming to the club for the first time, please contact us ahead of time either via email, twitter or facebook so that someone can greet you,
or let you know if we won't be there (especially if we have away matches going on!).
We do not have a dedicated junior section in the club.
However juniors looking to participate as a member in the league teams are welcome to do so. The upstairs room does not serve alcohol during matches.
